The biggest selling Irish whiskey in the world! Jameson can trace its history back to 1780 when John Jameson established a distilled on Bow St in Dublin. Surprisingly he was a Scot who had married into the famous Haig and Stein whisky dynasty. He acquired an existing distillery in Dublin at a time when the city's whiskey was a world leader. Dublin pot still was the best selling style of whiskey in the world, but unfortunately hard times lay ahead. The fortunes of Irish whiskey faltered due to prohibition, the temperance movement and the breakup of Ireland from the Commonwealth. Jameson was ultimately saved by joining Irish Distillers Group which consolidated production to a new distillery at Midleton in County Cork. Now it is fortunate to be the best selling brand of Irish whiskey in the world.
